Many district heating networks in Sweden still operate PR-KIK valves from Danish manufacturer Brdr. Christensen, produced between 1970 and 1992. Known for their robust design and long service life, many of these valves are still in operation today.
The challenge is rarely the valve itself. In most cases, it is the gearbox or actuator that has reached the end of its service life, while spare parts are no longer available. This can lead to increased maintenance costs, reduced reliability, and eventually costly valve replacements.
For Karlstads Energi, we modernized two existing PR-KIK valves by replacing the original gearboxes and actuators with a modern, cost-effective, and future-proof AUMA solution. Thanks to custom-engineered mounting components, the existing valves could be retained and upgraded without replacing the valve itself.
